When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you’ll want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.
It’s been a couple years since I’ve photographed a first birthday party! So I figured I’d sit on my bum a bit longer and post these images while they’re fresh!

…Good images tell stories

Just learned to walk and you have to get the belly out far enough in front to balance properly – haahaaaa!

Ahhh, these moments are self explanatory….just call me or contact me to have me photograph your first birthday party!
Do you have friends over a lifetime? It’s pretty rare these days to stay in touch with someone from your highschool days. Intense college friendships that helped you grow into your personality in those formative days get fractured by career goals, marriages, and babies. In that theme, it’s not too often that I post a few pictures shot on film…oye! I was the first to drop the stuff, because I appreciated a very exacting finish to my photos – but these photos are an assignment from one of those friendships – THE WOMAN, who influenced me into a photography career came to me for her engagement photos and she intended to hang them at her wedding while the instructions read: Abstract pictures of our faces
That was circa 2000…
So with that richness of relationship and history, I am so glad to write this post. I have had my camera in their life periodically for 10 years…and the history is on the shelves…

So why is ‘where art lives’ important? Well, I hope through this story that you will consider building a 20 year relationship with a photographer. A home with walls covered with things that don’t drip, ooose, and spill the shared experiences, joys, and moments of it’s occupants seems like a total waste to such a romantic soul as myself.

So here’s an overall – with my picture on the mantle at the right. The photo is mounted on foamcore for a stiff presentation, but without a frame. The frame showcases a textile art, and the photos accent the overall interior design.

Looking closer you can see the levels of scale that make this such a fun and eclectic view – the two ebony elephants such a rich contrast to the exposed brick and historic fireplace mantle.

To the left are shelves craftily cluttered with a rich selection of reading materials like The Joy in Loving: by Mother Teresa. Books are surrounded by pictures of their wedding (which I was too much of a guest to shoot) and accented by the pensive and deep portrait of their oldest son in black and white. Below is a pen and ink drawing of the historic Saint John’s Church where they were married…

Sometimes people have so much wall space that they are intimidated by the cost of presentation – but I wanted to throw in how a loose 4×6 print finds it’s own corner – a small moment, for you to find as you pick up a coaster…

So when you’ve got your pictures, from your wedding or your portraits – and get to the point where you’ve no-idea how you want to get them on your walls – just call me and setup and in-home appointment. I have 20+ years of crafting experience as well as a huge background in design and will pick up the themes that you have started in your furniture and carry them onto your walls with creativity. Your photos will bring new life to your walls and surround you with the feelings of love and care from the people you hold most dear!
What is a moment?
What is artistic photography?
So many brides come to me and their first question is how many hours, when I ask myself how many moments? Brides ask how many pictures, and I ask myself how many of my pictures, can change your expectations of pictures, teach you about the wondrous human spirit?
In artistic terms it’s a picture that asks the viewer what is going on, asks the viewer to ‘wonder’ about the hand. In composition class we’re taught to look for ‘closure’ whether the elements of a composition are touching or not touching, as it determines whether there is ‘peace’ or ‘tension’. In this incredible photograph I am able to combine both features of closure in a tender asking mood that invites you to live in wonder with the photograph. Most people strive for open eyes in pictures – but I’m striving to give you more than usual in my pictures. Here in this picture I ask you to connect with the peace created by closed eyes and contrast it with the tension of mother’s hand just lifted from touching her son and let your heart open up in the process.
Can I meet your expectations? in pictures – sure, but you can hire a lot of photographers that will do that…open yourself up to the experience of fine art, and be prepared to look deep into your wedding images!
I traveled to Sandbridge beach Virginia to observe Blair and Levi’s small intimate beach house wedding on a saturday in May, and came back with these images:
Blair was excited to meet me on the wedding day after all the phonecalls:

Her Dad has obviously been proud for years:

But I always have to remind people how extreme the wind and sea-spray is! Levi hold’s down the sand with his studly pose while Blair floats over it like the pixie she is:

This small family focused destination wedding at a beach house on Sandbridge Beach, Virginia Beach VA was shot in a total of 4 short hrs
Let me start out with a simple thank-you to Danielle and Trey, who first met me on their wedding day:
Cheers with a shot of 1800 Reposado to my playah Trey! and hugs to my sweetheart Danielle!! Thanks guys for such a great day.
The wedding day team was:
Chris and Rome ask for an urban terrain romp for their engagement photos and so this is what I deliver:

Thanks guys – glad to have a good time exploring the city with you anytime! Thanks to Area 15 and their vibrant colors!
For some things there’s mastercard – sure.
But some things, you just can’t buy…
A tender, encouraging kiss from the bride’s father – moments before she walks down the isle – is not something you can buy, but it’s something I deliver for my clients.
I can’t sell you this picture – because it’s one of a kind. But, you can be sure that I will be looking out for these moments you can’t buy as I shoot your wedding photography. I try my best to tenderly observe all these moments that are yours, to make them immortal in the images. When my clients ask “What is a wedding photojournalist?” my best answer is that they are interested in “One Moment” and it shows in all the pictures. My prayer is for clients who live tenderly, whole heartedly, and are willing to live out these moments before my lens. Are you my next client to observe and capture?
Charleston South Carolina is a very romantic city; the history, the humidity, the active nightlife…so if you’re getting married here, leave some time in your day to connect with your lover and take some romantic evening portraits. I recommend dusk, because the lighting helps your eyes relax – and the colors in the sky change giving your pictures a variety as dusk falls. Anywhere from the downtown historic streets of the French Quarter to the beaches of Sullivan’s Island or James Island make for wonderful locations.

The couch under the live oak tree – a gorgeous view of the sunset over the river for this November wedding. Oh yes, November in Charleston is still a great time to get married! Plan your wedding in the southern charm of Charleston to get the benefits of the Carolina blue skies and warm mild climate!
