What is a moment? What is artistic photography? So many brides come to me and their first question is how many hours, when I ask myself how many moments? Brides ask how many pictures, and I ask myself how many of my pictures, can change your expectations of pictures, teach you about the wondrous human [...]
I traveled to Sandbridge beach Virginia to observe Blair and Levi’s small intimate beach house wedding on a saturday in May, and came back with a wonderful slideshow! This small family focused destination wedding at a beach house on Sandbridge Beach, Virginia Beach VA was shot in a total of 4 short hrs.
Let me start out with a simple thank-you to Danielle and Trey, who first met me on their wedding day: Cheers with a shot of 1800 Reposado to my playah Trey! and hugs to my sweetheart Danielle!! A tender, encouraging kiss from the bride’s father – moments before she walks down the isle – is not something you can buy, but it’s something I deliver for my clients. I can’t sell you this picture – because it’s one of a kind. But, you can be sure that I will be looking out for these moments you can’t buy as I shoot your wedding photography. I try my best to tenderly observe all these moments that are yours, to make them immortal in the images. When my clients ask “What is a wedding photojournalist?” my best answer is that they are interested in “One Moment” and it shows in all the pictures.
Charleston South Carolina is a very romantic city; the history, the humidity, the active nightlife…so if you’re getting married here, leave some time in your day to connect with your lover and take some romantic evening portraits. I recommend dusk, because the lighting helps your eyes relax – and the colors in the sky change [...]

question I often hear from brides is ” Have you ever been to the ________ before” and while I’ve photographed over 250 weddings in a 10 year career as of this writing; my career has evolved to a wildly decentralized clientele. And I like that, I appreciate that, and I rise to the challenge of exploring new locations every time I go out to shoot. I explain how my internal psyche and temperament make it good for me, but let me expound on a few of the tricks where the video left off with this image:
What does a relationship look like? It’s a theme we blog about as we observe love being made real in the ceremonies and events that we photograph. Today’s theme is about grandparents. And hugs. I suppose that the quality of the hug is a nice visual clue as to the quality of the relationship, and [...]
Why am I made to be a good wedding photographer? A few of the answers might be endurance, for working 12+ hour days: Drive, to find unique moments every time – deal with new environments each wedding – and zest to grab life by the horns and ride. Most people like a steady job, with usual, predictable tasks – unfortunately I’m not made like that….or fortunately for you, I’ve found my niche and calling to marry the low attention span with high levels of challenge in a job that forces me to be my best – every time. It’s wild fun and I love that I’m perfectly made for it!
Today I bring up the lead image for NeilCowley.com in the One Moment theme In this theme we bring up a single image, and discuss it… would having this image from your wedding be enough? As an accomplished photographer of 10 years, the basic observation is not enough – as I seek to shoot images [...]
